Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a dedicated Security Guard to join the team at KZN Stores. This role involves providing security services in compliance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001. The primary objective is to safeguard company assets, property, and staff by maintaining a secure environment, identifying potential threats, and responding to disturbances while adhering to industry regulations and best practices.

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
• Grade C accreditation with PSIRA
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a retail security environment, including shopping malls or warehouses

Advantageous:

• At least 1 year of experience in a similar role

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular patrols to ensure visibility and minimize security risks.
• Monitor and control access to the premises, ensuring only authorized individuals enter.
• Identify and report suspicious activities, potential threats, or security breaches.
• Investigate signs of damage, unlawful entry, or criminal activities and escalate incidents accordingly.
• Maintain professional and courteous interactions with employees, customers, and visitors.
• Perform access control duties, including searching staff, suppliers, and merchandisers.
• Supervise refuse removal and ensure compliance with company security standards.
• Manage security registers and occurrence books, keeping records accurate and up to date.
• Conduct thorough personnel and vehicle searches throughout the day.
• Monitor security alarms, CCTV systems, and emergency equipment.
• Respond promptly to emergencies, notifying law enforcement and relevant authorities when necessary.
• Maintain order during evacuation procedures and assist emergency responders.
• Report any suspicious behavior, security violations, or potential hazards to management.
• Secure premises after hours, ensuring all doors and windows are locked.
• Enforce security protocols to prevent theft, vandalism, and other unlawful activities.
• Provide ongoing security guidance and safety recommendations to staff and management.

Competencies:

• Strong understanding of PSIRA regulations
• Knowledge of fire emergencies, health, and safety procedures
• Good command of English (reading, writing, and speaking)

Advantageous:

• Proficiency in a third language
