Job Description

Strategic Portfolio Leadership

  • Develop and implement a national portfolio management framework aligned with the company’s growth strategy and transformation agenda.
  • Lead segmentation, evaluation, and profitability monitoring across all agent companies using a data-driven and risk-informed approach.
  • Serve as the escalation and integration point for portfolio managers, ensuring harmonized execution across the channel.
  • Drive innovation in product and service delivery through insights from agent and client performance.

Strategic Partnership and Stakeholder Relations

  • Establish and manage strategic partnerships with key entities, including the Government Security Cluster, National Treasury-linked forums, and industry bodies like SAIA.
  • Identify collaborative projects to strengthen market resilience, awareness, and disaster risk financing innovation.
  • Represent the company in key forums to enhance strategic positioning within public-private platforms.

Financial and Business Oversight

  • Lead budgetary planning and monitoring for the Portfolio Management function.
  • Analyze financial trends in agent portfolios and implement recovery and transformation plans for underperformance.
  • Oversee revenue growth strategies and Gross Written Premium (GWP) performance tracking per distribution partner.
  • Ensure data quality and analytics for informed decision-making and stakeholder reporting.

Operational Excellence and Compliance

  • Define and enforce operational standards, portfolio governance, and SLA frameworks for all portfolio teams.
  • Proactively address audit findings and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Develop systems and tools to enhance transparency, performance tracking, and cross-functional alignment with claims, underwriting, and actuarial teams.
  • Lead internal forums to ensure integrated risk and compliance management.

Customer Experience and Channel Development

  • Implement a client-centric portfolio model focused on service reliability, responsiveness, and stakeholder value.
  • Support the onboarding and operationalization of new or alternative distribution channels.
  • Drive due diligence for new partners, ensuring robust contracts and service workflows.
  • Lead market research, awareness campaigns, and roadshows targeting under-insured segments.

People Leadership and Capacity Development

  • Provide strategic leadership to Portfolio Managers and their teams, setting performance goals and conducting quarterly reviews.
  • Foster a culture of high performance, agility, knowledge sharing, and professional development.
  • Mentor team members for succession planning and cross-functional growth.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Law, Risk Management, or related field.
  • AIISA or equivalent insurance qualification (beneficial).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Insurance, Strategy, Public Policy, or equivalent (preferred).

Experience

  • 7–10 years in short-term insurance or financial services, with at least 5 years in middle management.
  • Proven experience managing strategic partnerships and public sector engagements.
  • Track record of leading diverse distribution channels and high-performing teams.
  • Strong financial and operational oversight experience.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to perform ad-hoc tasks as required by the Line Manager.
