Job Description

The General Assistant is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining merchandising standards, performing accurate shelf price labelling, and ensuring cleanliness and safety within their assigned area. This role supports smooth store operations and contributes to a positive shopping experience for customers.

Requirements

• Minimum Grade 10 (NQF 3) with 1 year relevant work experience, or Grade 12 without work experience.
• Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language.
• Valid South African ID or work permit.
• Basic calculation skills.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

• Advise and assist customers on products and queries.
• Handle and resolve customer complaints professionally and efficiently.

Merchandising Standards

• Merchandise bulk stock safely according to store layout and planograms.
• Ensure assigned areas are fully stocked and visually organized.

Housekeeping

• Keep assigned areas free of obstacles and hazards.
• Ensure stock is merchandised promptly upon receipt.
• Maintain correct shelf pricing within your area.
• Complete canteen and toilet/shower checklists as required.

Safety Compliance (OHSA)

• Follow safety protocols and use appropriate safety gear.
• Maintain safe merchandising practices for customers and colleagues.
• Report any safety or operational discrepancies to the Store Manager.

Stock Management

• Report damaged or missing stock within your area to the Store Manager.
• Assist in reducing stock loss and maintaining stock integrity.
