Engen Vacancies – Fire Officer
Purpose
As a Fire Officer, you will proactively reduce the number of emergency incidents by supporting Fire Safety Inspections, training, and equipment maintenance. Your role will ensure that incidents are managed efficiently and effectively to preserve life and minimize asset damage using appropriate tactics and best practices.
Who You Are
- You have experience working in the Petrochemical industry.
- You possess hands-on experience in Fire Fighting.
- You excel in problem-solving and quick decision-making.
What You Have Done Before
Baseline:
- Diploma in Fire Technology or equivalent (e.g., IFE, SAESI, TUT)
- Basic Ambulance Certificate or Level 3 First Aid
- Valid Code C Driver’s License
- 5 years of operational experience in a recognized Fire Brigade, including 2 years as a Fire Officer
- Successful completion of Driver’s and Physical Fitness Assessments
Advantageous:
- SAESI Higher Diploma or equivalent (IFE/TUT)
- BAA Registered with HPCSA

What You Will Be Doing
Key Accountabilities:
- Respond to incidents using the Incident Management System.
- Lead the response team to prioritize Life Safety by effectively managing and sizing up incidents.
- Train and develop Firefighters and Operational Fire Teams in emergency response.
- Proactively work to reduce the number of emergency incidents.
- Oversee and monitor Fire Safety Inspections.
- Enforce compliance with legislative requirements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Fulfill statutory responsibilities as per the Fire Brigade Services Act 99 of 1987.
- Adhere to regulations set by the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
- Ensure all relevant equipment and vehicles are fully operational and maintained according to industry standards.
- Support Engen Business Units with training, audits, and equipment readiness.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with government authorities, business institutions, national and key industry players, and service providers.
- Support and guide the development of firefighters.

- SAQCC
- HPCSA
- SAESI
