Diesel Mechanic – Value Logistics
Purpose of the Role
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, servicing, and repair work on commercial vehicles in line with Value Logistics job cards, manufacturer specifications, and company standards, ensuring fleet reliability, safety, and optimal performance.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs

Conduct visual inspections and onboard diagnostics during pre-diagnosis processes

Review workshop job cards for accuracy and clarity before commencing work

Perform scheduled services and repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications and maintenance systems

Adhere strictly to approved flat-rate repair times
-
Attend to breakdowns during office hours and after hours as required

Prepare tools, equipment, and required parts prior to commencing work
-
Carry out calibrations, adjustments, and inspections to ensure optimal vehicle performance
Fault Identification & Quality Control

Identify irregularities, abnormal wear, and potential defects, and report findings to the Workshop Foreman
-
Initiate additional work requirements where necessary and provide accurate technical feedback

Inspect dismantled components and replace with new or reconditioned parts as required

Reset maintenance systems in line with internal procedures
-
Perform final quality checks using testing and measuring equipment to confirm roadworthiness and reliability
Parts & Documentation

Ensure all parts and consumables used are accurately booked to the relevant job card
-
Return removed or unusable parts and document all work completed
-
Prepare dismantled components for return or reconditioning where applicable

Sign off completed job cards accurately and timeously
Professional Conduct & Compliance

Maintain professional conduct and represent the company positively at all times

Assist with operational support tasks when required

Adhere to company dress code and Standard Operating Procedures

Maintain high housekeeping standards within the workshop daily

Comply with all Health and Safety regulations and safe working practices
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Matric)

Trade-tested Commercial Vehicle Diesel Technician
Skills & Competencies

Strong technical aptitude in diesel vehicle maintenance and repairs

Ability to apply appropriate diagnostic techniques and repair strategies

Customer-focused approach within own area of responsibility

Understanding of business principles related to workshop operations

Ability to identify hazards and apply Health and Safety procedures effectively

Capable of working independently under guidance while maintaining quality standards
