Collections Department Manager – Pepkor Vacancies
Job Description
The Collections Department Manager is responsible for driving profitability by ensuring all collections activities align with the Credit and Collections Policy, as well as applicable regulations such as the National Credit Act and Debt Collectors Act. This role focuses on maintaining acceptable delinquency and charge-off levels while continuously improving strategies, processes, and team performance.
The role also plays a critical part in developing and leading high-performing teams, fostering a culture that promotes productivity, accountability, and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
Operational and Strategic Management
- Ensure all collections activities comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements
- Manage inbound and outbound calling strategies to maximize operational efficiency and effectiveness
- Achieve productivity targets while minimizing delinquency and charge-offs
- Develop and maintain performance controls to identify risks, enhance collections, reduce costs, and improve processes
- Analyze delinquency trends and market conditions to refine and improve collections strategies
- Collaborate with internal departments to improve credit quality and risk management
- Resolve disputes related to receivables and customer accounts
- Review and approve charge-off schedules and communicate outcomes to relevant stakeholders
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of receivables reports to senior management
- Maintain up-to-date customer records and documentation
- Stay informed on relevant legislation and industry developments within the credit environment
- Participate in industry forums to enhance credit and collections knowledge
- Execute ad hoc tasks and strategic projects as required
Team Leadership and People Management
- Lead and manage a team of Collections Team Managers to achieve departmental objectives
- Drive recruitment, training, motivation, and performance management initiatives
- Provide strong leadership that promotes a high-performance and customer-focused culture
- Conduct regular team meetings to ensure effective communication, alignment, and productivity
- Mentor and coach team members, supporting their professional development and career growth
- Set clear performance targets and conduct regular performance reviews
- Address underperformance, probation requirements, and behavioral concerns in line with company policies
- Manage absenteeism and ensure adherence to company procedures, including return-to-work processes
- Oversee administrative processes such as ESS/Sage transactions, leave management, and payroll inputs
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Team Manager role
- At least 3 years’ experience in a Department Manager position within a collections environment
Qualifications
- Grade 12
- BCom in Management is advantageous
- Diploma in Credit Management is advantageous
Skills and Competencies
- Strong leadership and people management abilities

- Solid understanding of credit management, collections processes, and regulatory frameworks
- Ability to interpret data and implement strategic improvements
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
