Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking an experienced Casual Cashier for the Ballito Lifestyle store. The Casual Cashier will support customer service at the point of sale, ensuring an excellent shopping experience while accurately recording transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system. The role requires strict adherence to company policies and procedures to prevent errors and eliminate fraud risk.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service in line with Dis-Chem policies and procedures
• Build professional relationships with customers and address queries regarding merchandise
• Report customer compliments and complaints to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
• Maintain customer turnover targets and stay informed about current sales and promotions
• Ensure the safety of colleagues and customers at all times
• Apply Dis-Chem 5-star communication principles
• Manage cash flow and process all payments, including cash, bank cards, vouchers, and coupons
• Process loyalty cards, including accelerator partners (Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, eBucks)
• Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved by a supervisor
• Handle merchandise exchanges and authorised returns
• Secure cash in drop safes according to SOPs
• Use personal codes and passwords safely and update regularly
• Scan and process all outgoing stock/items/scripts accurately
• Keep all money securely inside the till and handle daily takings confidentially
• Recognise and report suspicious behaviour to management
• Adhere to store security policies and procedures

Minimum Requirements
Essential:

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Minimum 6 months’ experience in cashier or till operations
• Computer literate (MS Office)
• Strong numerical skills and command of English
• Basic customer service knowledge
• Willingness to work retail hours

Competencies
Essential:

• Proficiency in operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers
• Knowledge of processing sales, refunds, and payments
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Presentable with strong emotional intelligence and social awareness
• Accountability, problem-solving skills, and time management
• Trustworthy and honest

Advantageous:

• Knowledge of a third additional language
