Job Description
The Assistant Manager supports the Store Manager in protecting and growing profitable market share while ensuring the store operates efficiently and aligns with company strategy. This role involves overseeing operations, managing staff, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining store standards.
Requirements
- Grade 12 with at least 2 years of retail management experience.
- Valid driver’s license and South African ID or work permit.
- Strong accounting, administrative, and leadership skills.
- Computer literate with basic skills.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety standards (OHSA) and local regulations.
- Strong human resources management skills.
- Own transport and cell phone.
- Ability to perform under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Management
- Assist the Store Manager in developing and implementing the Store Business Plan aligned with company strategy.
- Support execution of divisional and operational initiatives.
Market Share and Sales Growth
- Assist in achieving sales budgets and category growth objectives.
- Promote customer loyalty programs and ensure effective distribution of advertising materials.
- Develop action plans to protect market share against competitors.
Customer Service
- Implement and monitor customer service strategies.
- Maintain customer audits above 95%.
- Ensure prompt and reliable delivery service and grow the VIC client base.
- Recommend product range improvements and respond to customer surveys.
Asset Control – Stock
- Manage shrinkage, PIC processes, stock movement, wall-to-wall stock takes, IBTs, customer returns, and receiving.
- Analyze security requirements and implement necessary changes.
Asset Control – Cash
- Oversee daily banking, petty cash, debtors, RD cheques, shorts and overs, and credit card management.
Asset Control – Fixed Assets
- Maintain and protect racking, displays, signage, forklifts, generators, IT equipment, telephone systems, and safes.
Human Resource Management
- Assist in recruitment, induction, training, succession planning, manpower management, employee relations, and communication within the store.
Store Safety (OHSA) Standards
- Ensure safety compliance including checklists, appointment of safety reps, and incident reporting.
Store Trading Standards
- Maintain housekeeping, merchandising, planograms, yard, and parking areas to company standards.
Profitability
- Support achievement of operating income budgets and manage the store according to financial models and benchmarks.
CB Way Compliance
- Monitor adherence to company audit standards, implement corrective actions, and maintain operational controls.
