As a Category Buyer at Pick n Pay, you will be responsible for compiling and executing category plans in line with the company’s strategy, objectives, and category group guidelines. Your role will focus on optimizing category performance by ensuring alignment with customer needs while driving format, margin, and assortment strategies.
Minimum Requirements
- Preferably a relevant University Degree
- 3-4 years of retail experience
- Experience in Category Management, specializing in Baby Care
- Proven success in achieving financial KPIs
- SAP knowledge and analytical skills are essential

- Excellent networking and relationship-building skills
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong commercial and financial acumen with analytical expertise

- Strong negotiation and influencing abilities
- Capability to perform under pressure and at pace
Key Responsibilities
Negotiation
- Develop and present compelling arguments to secure supplier agreements
- Manage conflicts diplomatically and anticipate negotiation challenges
Category Strategy
- Analyze internal and external data to recommend growth strategies
- Evaluate merchandising plans and suggest improvements
Category Performance
- Monitor sales, margin, availability, and other critical metrics
- Stay informed on industry trends and apply insights to buying plans
- Execute tactical buying plans aligned with Pick n Pay’s overall strategy
Supplier Relations
- Maintain strong supplier relationships and hold them accountable for performance
- Develop contingency plans to address supplier performance gaps
Private Brand Strategy
- Implement private brand strategies in line with category and company goals
Merchandise Knowledge
- Leverage product and promotional knowledge to drive business results
- Apply industry trends to enhance merchandising decisions
