Manager, Finance – MTN Careers
Mission
The Manager, Finance serves as the chief financial and strategic advisor, providing expert financial guidance to the Managing Director and senior management. This role oversees the company’s financial operations, ensures alignment with organizational strategy, and drives initiatives to strengthen financial health and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Development and Implementation
- Translate Group strategy into a functional Finance strategy aligned with business goals under MD oversight.
- Implement functional strategy through frameworks, plans, roadmaps, and structured guidance.
- Regularly review and update the Finance strategy to reflect internal and external ecosystem changes.
Staff Leadership and Management
- Recruit, induct, and manage finance talent in line with legislative and organizational guidelines.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, teamwork, and open communication within the Finance function.
- Define roles, responsibilities, individual goals, and performance objectives for team members.
- Set KPIs and provide regular performance feedback via structured review programs.
- Develop and implement training plans to upskill the team and ensure continuous professional growth.
- Manage staff performance in accordance with HR policies and labor regulations.
- Actively participate in the leadership team while promoting cross-functional partnerships and adherence to Group governance.
Governance and Strategic Input
- Participate in strategic meetings and provide input for transformation initiatives and organizational decision-making.
- Ensure risk mitigation, internal controls, and compliance within the Finance function.
- Evaluate Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and KPIs, driving approvals from MD/Group for new initiatives.
- Prepare proposals for SLA, policy, and procedural changes, ensuring proper budget allocation post-approval.
Escalations and Issue Resolution
- Escalate high-impact issues affecting time, scope, productivity, or costs to the MD/Group.
- Provide solutions to escalations impacting multiple processes or critical service delivery paths.
Operational and Tactical Management
- Monitor all Finance projects, ensuring objectives, targets, and budgets are aligned with business priorities.
- Identify risks, issues, and dependencies, and implement mitigation actions in consultation with the MD.
- Approve tactical changes within the function or seek MD sign-off where required.
- Oversee operational delivery to ensure alignment with overall organizational strategy.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Monitor functional performance and alignment with FibreCo strategy.
- Review SLA compliance and exceptions, ensuring financial and operational objectives are met.
- Provide monthly and ad hoc reports to the MD on progress, project performance, and functional outcomes.
Budget Management
- Manage the Finance function’s budgets in alignment with business objectives under MD oversight.
- Oversee project initiative budgets, ensuring adherence to cost efficiency strategies.
- Ensure operational costs are managed in line with business drivers and least-cost principles.
Functional Leadership
- Lead the Finance vertical, ensuring strategy, direction, and results are aligned across the organization.
- Deploy integrated problem-solving and solution development approaches across the Finance function.
- Serve on executive and risk committees, ensuring financial goals are aligned with organizational objectives.
Education
- First degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., CPA, ACCA, MBA) are advantageous.
- Fluent in English.
Experience
- Extensive experience in financial management and strategic advisory roles.
- Proven track record in leading finance teams and driving organizational financial performance.
- Experience in budgeting, reporting, governance, and financial strategy development within medium to large organizations.
- Strong understanding of risk management, operational delivery, and performance monitoring.
