About the Role:
The Manager: Base Airports is responsible for overseeing airport operations, managing staff and resources, ensuring compliance with safety and service standards, and maintaining positive passenger experiences across assigned stations. This role provides leadership, operational oversight, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and authorise purchases and invoices for Passenger Services, Crew, and Technical operations.
- Control costs related to delays, missed connections, and motivate for additional purchasing contracts.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives and manage relationships with external service providers.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and relevant legislation (Air/Ground Safety, Labour).
- Achieve punctuality and On-Time Performance (OTP) targets; ensure emergency plans are in place at each station.
- Plan, organise, and allocate resources efficiently to meet operational requirements.
- Coordinate delay handling, including attending the airport for critical incidents.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure service and safety standards meet FlySafair requirements.
- Promote a smooth and positive passenger experience; drive customer service KPIs and Net Promoter Score (NPS).
- Ensure external service providers maintain customer service standards aligned with FlySafair.
- Lead, motivate, and manage supervisors and staff, ensuring effective communication, training, and skill development.
- Manage staff performance, queries, scheduling, recruitment, and retention in collaboration with HR.
- Enforce housekeeping, health, safety, and company code of conduct standards.
- Represent FlySafair Operations at various forums, including Airline Operators Committee (AOC), Local Baggage/Pilferage, Airport Security and Safety, and Bird/Wildlife Committees through third-party service providers.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Diploma or Degree in Travel, Tourism, or Aviation (advantageous).
- Minimum 10 years’ aviation experience, with at least 5 years in a management role.
- Experience in baggage handling, passenger handling operations, cargo handling, and non-scheduled operations.
- Knowledge of commercial ground handling agreements.
- Familiarity with IOSA and ISAGO audit requirements.
