Job Description
The Cadet (Level 2) forms part of FlySafair’s advanced pilot development programme and is required to actively participate in all phases of structured training. The role focuses on strengthening operational competence, safety awareness, and technical proficiency, with the objective of progressing to First Officer in line with company and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities

Participate fully in all components of the cadet training programme, including ground school, simulator training, and flight instruction

Demonstrate advanced understanding of aviation theory, aircraft systems, and operational procedures

Develop strong situational awareness, decision-making, and problem-solving skills in dynamic operational environments
-
Uphold the highest safety standards and ensure compliance with aviation regulations, company policies, and SOPs
-
Maintain professional conduct, discipline, and effective teamwork throughout all training activities
-
Accurately maintain training records and complete all assessments as required
-
Engage in continuous self-study and professional development to meet programme standards
-
Attend all briefings, debriefings, feedback sessions, and performance reviews
-
Observe, understand, and apply company policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
-
Progressively enhance technical knowledge, flight skills, and operational readiness
-
Actively seek and apply feedback to improve performance
-
Progress to fully qualified First Officer status in accordance with FlySafair training and competency requirements
Job Requirements

Grade 12 or equivalent
-
Valid Commercial Pilot Licence
-
Valid Multi-Engine Instrument Rating
-
Valid Class I Medical
-
Minimum flight time meeting one of the following criteria:
-
800–1000 total flying hours with at least 300 Multi-Engine Piston (PIC) hours, or
-
800 total flying hours with at least 200 Twin Turbine (P1/2) hours under 10 000 kg, or
-
1000 total flying hours with a minimum of 300 PIC hours, including 100 PIC Single Engine Turbine and Twin Piston hours, or
-
700 total flying hours with Boeing or Airbus type rating, including Level D simulator time

No existing medical conditions

Willingness to sign applicable training bonds, including a 7-year training bond
-
No criminal record
-
Willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing

Valid RSA driver’s licence and own transport
-
South African citizen with proof of identity
-
Valid South African passport
-
Good understanding of the aviation industry
-
Knowledge of SACAA regulations
-
Understanding of high-speed aerodynamics, aircraft technical, and general aviation concepts
-
Knowledge of South African weather systems and meteorological phenomena
-
Sound knowledge of ATNS radiotelephony procedures
