Purpose of the Job
The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for travelling to various sites to perform routine tyre maintenance, breakdown support, and tyre surveys for the Value Logistics fleet. The role ensures tyre safety, compliance, accurate reporting, and optimal fleet performance.

Key Responsibilities

Stock Control

• Ensure tyre stock is securely locked and controlled at all times

• Assist with daily discrepancy investigations and reporting

• Support monthly cycle counts and stock verification

Tyre Surveys

• Travel to required sites to conduct tyre surveys and maintenance

• Prioritise surveys based on the fleet list provided by the supervisor

• Complete daily tyre surveys using the approved tyre management system, with manual documentation when systems are offline

• Capture accurate survey data including brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressure, and tread depth readings

• Ensure all vehicles and spare wheels are surveyed monthly and tyre pressures corrected as required

• Report missing spare wheels and spray spare wheel rims red for easy identification

• Ensure wheel nuts are correctly torqued and wheel nut indicators are fitted

• Replace missing wheel nut indicators

• Take and submit photos of scrap tyres to the supervisor

• Provide daily feedback to the supervisor on vehicles surveyed, issues identified, outstanding surveys, and productivity

Tyre Branding

• Identify and report tyres without brand numbers

• Brand tyres according to the approved tyre listing

Tyre Replacement

• Identify and replace smooth, punctured, or damaged tyres in line with SOPs

• Accurately complete tyre change slips timeously

• Submit completed tyre change slips daily to the supervisor

Tyre Rotations

• Rotate tyres according to tread matching requirements

• Complete and submit tyre change slips accurately and on time

Breakdown Support

• Ensure the breakdown support vehicle is stocked with the correct tyre sizes and quantities

• Respond promptly to tyre-related breakdowns on site

• Handle breakdowns with urgency while complying with all driving and safety regulations

• Complete breakdown reports and tyre change documentation for all tyres removed and fitted

• Return damaged or punctured tyres to the depot and hand over tyres and documentation to the supervisor

Company Equipment and Assets

• Secure tyre maintenance tablets when not in use and at the end of each shift

• Conduct daily vehicle checklists and submit to the supervisor for filing

• Ensure company vehicles are parked, locked, and keys secured after each shift

• Report all vehicle accidents and damages immediately

• Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working order

• Submit weekly tyre bay tool checklists and report defective tools

Housekeeping

• Maintain clean and tidy work areas and company vehicles at all times

Health and Safety

• Comply with all health and safety rules and regulations

• Use the correct PPE at all times

• Report health and safety incidents and near misses immediately

General Duties

• Adhere to all company policies and procedures including SOPs, training, HR, POPIA, dress code, smoking, and attendance

• Assist with additional company requirements as needed

• Be available for weekend work when required
