Trainee Manager

Job Purpose
The Trainee Manager is responsible for supporting the Store Manager in protecting and growing profitable market share by ensuring effective store operations aligned with store, divisional, and company strategies. This role develops future store leadership capability through hands-on exposure to all areas of retail management.
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 with a minimum of two years’ retail management experience

Valid driver’s licence
-
Valid South African ID or valid work permit
-
Strong accounting and numerical skills
-
Computer literacy (basic level)
-
Strong leadership, administrative, and human resource management skills
-
Ability to work under pressure
-
Own transport and personal cell phone
-
Sound knowledge of Health and Safety requirements in line with OHSA legislation
-
Ability to support immediate corrective action on non-compliance
-
Ability to assist with managing damaged, obsolete, and slow-moving stock

Assist in developing, implementing, and managing the Store Business Plan

Ensure alignment with divisional and company strategic objectives

Promote customer loyalty programmes such as VIC and charge cards

Asset Control – Stock

Assist in managing and controlling stock shrinkage

Support the PIC process and wall-to-wall stock takes

Monitor and control stock movement within the store

Support end control processes including IBTs, customer returns, and receiving

Assist in assessing and improving store security measures
Asset Control – Cash

Assist in managing debtors and returned cheque processes
-
Support petty cash control and daily banking
-
Assist in managing cash shortages and overages
-
Support cheque and credit card control processes
Asset Control – Fixed Assets

Assist in maintaining and protecting racking, displays, and signage
-
Support maintenance of forklifts, generators, IT equipment, and telephone systems
-
Assist in maintaining and protecting the store safe
Human Resource Management

Support recruitment and induction of store employees
-
Assist in implementing training and development initiatives
-
Support succession planning and career pathing
-
Assist in managing staffing levels in line with benchmarks
-
Promote open communication through employee engagement platforms

Support effective employee relations management
Store Safety and Compliance

Assist in managing store safety in line with OHSA requirements

Ensure completion of safety checklists

Support appointment of safety representatives

Assist with incident reporting and record keeping
Store Trading Standards

Support housekeeping and merchandising standards

Assist in implementing and maintaining correct planograms

Ensure yard and parking areas are maintained to standard
