Job Overview
The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for leading and implementing effective health and safety strategies at site level, ensuring full compliance with legal, corporate, and global safety standards. This role drives a proactive safety culture, manages risk, and ensures the consistent application of ISO 45001 and KORE requirements while partnering with plant leadership to achieve operational excellence and injury-free performance.
Key Responsibilities

Implement national and site health and safety strategies in line with corporate objectives and legislative requirements

Lead the local implementation and maintenance of ISO 45001 and KORE safety management systems

Conduct regular risk assessments and maintain accurate site risk registers

Monitor compliance with legal and company standards and drive corrective and preventive actions

Prepare for, facilitate, and follow up on internal and external audits and inspections

Lead investigations into incidents and near misses using root cause analysis methodologies
-
Ensure timely implementation of corrective actions and preventative measures

Plan, coordinate, and deliver health and safety training for employees, contractors, and visitors
-
Maintain accurate training records and competence matrices

Track, analyze, and report health and safety KPIs, trends, and action plans to leadership

Use data insights to identify risks and drive proactive safety interventions
-
Develop, test, and maintain emergency preparedness and response plans
-
Coordinate emergency response activities with internal teams and external services
-
Lead, coach, and manage health and safety team members to build capability and accountability
-
Partner with production, maintenance, QSE, HR, and other departments to embed safety into operations

Represent the site in national health and safety forums and initiatives

Qualifications
-
National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, Environmental Health, Industrial Engineering, or a related field

SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent occupational health and safety certification

ISO 45001 auditor training is an advantage
-
Registration with a professional body such as SACPCMP or IOSH is preferred
Experience
-
5 to 8 years’ experience in a health and safety role within a manufacturing environment, preferably FMCG or food and beverage
-
Proven experience implementing safety management systems and driving safety culture change
-
Demonstrated ability to manage safety teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders
-
Experience managing contractor safety and third-party compliance frameworks
Skills and Competencies

In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and standards

Strong familiarity with global safety management systems such as KORE
-
Advanced root cause analysis and corrective action management capability

Strong competence in risk assessments, JHAs, and permit-to-work systems

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all organizational levels
