About the Role

The General Assistant is responsible for delivering excellent customer service, maintaining merchandising standards, and ensuring cleanliness and safety within the store. This role supports daily store operations by managing stock, assisting customers, and maintaining a safe and organized environment.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

• Assist and advise customers on products and queries.
• Address and resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally.

Merchandising Standards

• Safely merchandise bulk stock according to store layout plans and planograms.
• Ensure all assigned areas are fully merchandised and visually appealing.

Housekeeping

• Maintain a clean, safe, and obstacle-free area for customers and colleagues.
• Ensure accurate shelf price labelling within your area of responsibility.
• Complete checklists for canteen and toilet/shower schedules as required.

Safety (OHSA) Compliance

• Follow safety protocols and use appropriate safety gear.
• Ensure merchandise and stock are arranged safely for customers and staff.
• Report any safety or operational discrepancies to the Store Manager.

Stock Management

• Report damaged or expired stock within your area to the Store Manager.
• Monitor stock levels and assist in inventory control as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum Grade 10 (NQF 3) with 1 year of relevant work experience, or Grade 12 without experience.
• Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language.
• Valid South African ID or work permit.
• Basic calculation skills.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
• Ability to perform under pressure and maintain focus.
