Pick n Pay Careers  – Blockman

The Blockman is responsible for preparing, cutting, and packaging meat products while maintaining quality, hygiene, and safety standards. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and strong customer service skills to ensure a high standard of butchery operations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cut, and wrap meat products according to specifications and daily/weekly targets
  • Accurately price and label random weight and loose-selling items
  • Conduct quality checks, rotate stock, and remove damaged or expired products
  • Prevent wastage, shrinkage, and damages through proper handling and storage
  • Maintain cold chain requirements and regularly monitor temperatures
  • Ensure hygiene, housekeeping, and safe working standards are upheld
  • Adhere to security procedures to protect stock and equipment
  • Operate and clean butchery equipment according to safety standards
  • Assist customers by recommending products, handling requests, and providing professional service
  • Process customer orders efficiently while maintaining service standards
  • Actively promote butchery products to enhance sales
  • Monitor budgets related to expenses, turnover, and gross profit, taking necessary action as required
  • Handle and operate potentially dangerous equipment safely
  • Work in varying temperatures, including cold storage and freezer environments
  • Communicate effectively with management, colleagues, customers, and suppliers

Requirements

  • Must pass the required numeracy and Blockman assessment
  • Ability to capture data on a computer
  • 1-2 years of experience in a butchery environment
