Boilermaker – Value Logistics

Purpose of the Job
The Boilermaker is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal components used in truck bodies. The role requires a high level of precision and craftsmanship while ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards. The Boilermaker will collaborate with team members to complete projects within set deadlines, maintain equipment, and accurately document completed tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Metal Fabrication and Welding

• Cut, shape, and assemble metal components with precision and accuracy
• Operate fabrication tools such as plasma cutters, grinders, and shears effectively
• Perform various welding techniques to achieve strong and accurate results
• Stay updated with modern welding and fabrication methods and technologies
• Select suitable materials according to project specifications
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and technical specifications
• Measure and mark metal components carefully to ensure proper alignment and fit
• Repair damaged truck body components and carry out routine maintenance tasks

Quality Control and Safety Compliance

• Inspect finished work to ensure it meets required quality standards
• Follow all workshop safety procedures and regulations
• Maintain and clean welding and fabrication equipment regularly
• Identify and resolve fabrication issues during the production process

Collaboration and Communication

• Work closely with team members to coordinate daily tasks and activities
• Communicate with supervisors and managers to maintain high-quality output
• Complete assignments within project deadlines
• Maintain accurate records of completed work, materials used, and time spent on each project

Panel Shop Operations

• Review job cards or quotations to determine the scope of work required
• Inspect vehicles and compare them with job card details to identify necessary parts
• Identify and report any additional damage
• Order required parts and follow up on outstanding orders when needed
• Verify that all ordered parts are correct and free from damage
• Ensure parts that require painting are sent to the paint shop with the vehicle
• Strip and reassemble vehicles as required
• Ensure correct panel alignment and proper fitting of all components
• Conduct final inspections to confirm that work is completed to a high standard
• Perform a final physical check to confirm the vehicle is roadworthy

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Red Seal Trade Certificate
• Minimum of 5 years relevant workshop experience

• Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accurate measurements, alignment, and high-quality workmanship
• Strong commitment to safety standards and compliance with workshop safety procedures
• Proven ability to cut, shape, and weld metal components with precision
• Skilled operation of fabrication tools including plasma cutters, grinders, and shears
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications accurately
