Casual Cashier

Dischem Vacancies is looking for Casual Cashiers to join their East Rand store. This role is part of a talent pool of pre-screened individuals with the skills and attributes suitable for future opportunities within Dis-Chem Pharmacies.

Purpose of the Role

Support point-of-sale operations while delivering an exceptional customer experience. Accurately record all customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system, following company policies and standard operating procedures, with strict adherence to accuracy and fraud prevention.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales Support

• Deliver professional and friendly service to customers
• Build and maintain positive relationships with customers
• Report compliments and complaints to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
• Stay informed about current sales, promotions, and hourly customer turnover targets

Point of Sale Operations

• Accurately process all transactions, including cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and other accepted methods
• Process loyalty cards and accelerator partner programs
• Authorize and document line voids and price changes with supervisor approval
• Handle merchandise exchanges and returns as authorized

Cash Handling & Security

• Manage cash flow and maintain till accuracy
• Ensure cash is securely placed in drop safes according to SOPs
• Protect personal till codes and passwords at all times
• Ensure all outgoing stock, items, and prescriptions are scanned and paid for
• Handle daily takings confidentially and discuss only with management
• Monitor and report any suspicious activity

Compliance & Risk Control

• Follow Dis-Chem’s customer service, security, and operational procedures
• Ensure a safe environment for colleagues and customers

Minimum Requirements

Essential

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Minimum of 6 months’ experience in cashier or till operations
• Computer literate, including MS Office
• Strong numerical skills and accuracy
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• Basic customer service skills
• Willing and able to work retail hours

• Ability to process sales, refunds, and multiple payment methods
