Purpose of the Job

The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the end-to-end picking operations and inventory control processes within the warehouse. This role ensures accurate, efficient, and system-driven order fulfillment while supervising permanent and outsourced picking teams. The position plays a vital role in maintaining productivity targets, operational discipline, safety compliance, and service excellence to support timely and cost-effective customer deliveries.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

• Supervise, guide, and support permanent and outsourced picking staff
• Maintain a structured, disciplined, and productive working environment
• Conduct daily team briefings to review performance, progress, and challenges
• Ensure all picking activities follow established warehouse procedures and standards
• Enforce system-driven picking and correct stock location selection
• Perform random quality and accuracy checks to maintain high standards
• Ensure productivity targets and operational deadlines are consistently met
• Coordinate with warehouse planners to align picking schedules with dispatch requirements
• Prevent delays and minimize additional transport or service costs through effective planning
• Monitor and ensure proper use of equipment such as pallet jacks and handheld scanners
• Oversee administrative processes related to the picking function
• Report daily on productivity, accuracy, progress, and operational challenges
• Maintain accurate records of staff performance and process compliance

Warehouse Supervision

• Lead, train, and motivate team members to achieve operational goals
• Enforce company policies, disciplinary procedures, and Health & Safety regulations
• Conduct regular team meetings and toolbox talks to drive continuous improvement

Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare daily and weekly reports on productivity, order accuracy, and inventory performance
• Track key performance indicators including picking timelines and stock variances
• Maintain documentation to support internal and external audits

Health & Safety Compliance

• Ensure adherence to occupational Health & Safety standards at all times
• Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions where necessary
• Maintain a safe, compliant, and organized work environment

Housekeeping

• Ensure the warehouse remains clean, organized, and hazard-free
• Keep aisles, picking areas, and storage zones clear and compliant
• Implement and monitor daily housekeeping standards
• Ensure proper disposal of waste and packaging materials
• Inspect tools, equipment, and PPE to confirm they are correctly stored and maintained

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field (preferred)
• Experience in warehouse picking operations
• Supervisory or team leadership experience

Skills Required

• Strong leadership and people management abilities
• Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and MS Office
• Understanding of inventory control principles
• Strong numerical and literacy skills
• Excellent planning and organizational capabilities
• System-driven and process-oriented mindset
