What You Will Do:
As an Underwriter: Professional Indemnity, you will be responsible for underwriting and managing a portfolio of existing and new business. Your core duties will include:
- Underwriting:
- Underwrite and manage a diverse portfolio, ensuring all underwriting tasks are effectively carried out, including risk evaluation, pricing determination, and claims analysis.
- Conduct detailed coverage and exposure analysis and provide reviews of policy wording.
- Assess and understand loss ratios and claim trends to inform underwriting decisions.
- Ensure adherence to the authority matrix, departmental protocols, and procedures.
- Provide detailed explanations regarding changes to terms or underwriting stance, ensuring clear communication with relevant parties.
- Marketing and Client Liaison:
- Visit brokers to discuss renewals, new business, and develop lasting relationships.
- Provide market intelligence feedback to help inform business strategies and decisions.
- Respond to internal and external client queries, ensuring satisfactory resolution within the scope of authority.
- Financial Responsibilities:
- Manage a book of business in line with budget objectives.
- Monitor renewals, lapsed policies, and new business, providing monthly reports.
- Ensure the maintenance of a 2.5% Cancellation Reserve.
- Strategic Input:
- Offer strategic input to improve and enhance business performance when required.
- General Administration:
- Follow up on quotations, renewals, and assist with the preparation of policy documentation.
- Handle account queries and assist with credit control when necessary.
- Perform daily administrative tasks in accordance with organizational standards.
What Will Make You Successful in This Role:
To succeed in the role of Underwriter: Professional Indemnity, you should demonstrate:
- Experience and Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5+ years experience in short-term insurance, with a focus on casualty lines of insurance or commercial underwriting.
- Proven technical underwriting experience.
- Matric certificate, with an appropriate tertiary qualification in insurance or risk management preferred.
- FAIS compliance is advantageous.
