Sasol careers – Technician I Instr & Control
Purpose of the Job:
As a Technician I Instrumentation & Control, you will provide essential technical support to maintenance managers and foremen. You will be responsible for optimizing control systems, implementing maintenance strategies, and driving continuous improvements for plant operations. This role will also involve contributing to both short- and long-term project planning, with opportunities for independent decision-making. The position may require standby, overtime, and shutdown work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of equipment and systems to improve reliability.
- Provide technical support for control systems, including Honeywell DCS/ESD/CCC/Moore/Allen Bradley/Siemens systems and field instrumentation.
- Develop and update maintenance strategies to optimize plant operations.
- Create and maintain long-term maintenance plans, including 10-year strategic planning.
- Manage system changes and ensure compliance with change management protocols.
- Contribute to strategy development using Meridiam APM Framework software.
- Participate in Hazard and Operability Studies (Hazop), Control Factory Acceptance Tests (CFATs), and alignment sessions.
- Perform fault-finding and problem-solving for Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) systems.
- Conduct Root Cause Analyses (RCA) to resolve recurring issues and enhance system stability.
- Support project management efforts and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Learn and understand different plant processes to improve system efficiency.
- Update or create data sheets, loop drawings, and Master Flow Diagrams (MFDs).
- Apply asset management philosophies to ensure system sustainability and efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Matric/N3 with Maths, English, and Physical Science.
- National Diploma in Instrumentation & Control or equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in instrumentation and control systems.
- Valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.

- Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of instrumentation and control systems, particularly in Honeywell DCS, Allen Bradley, Siemens, and similar platforms.
