Sasol careers – Technician I Instr & Control Secunda
Purpose of the Job:
The Technician I Instr & Control is responsible for performing routine maintenance, installing complex digital and analog control systems, conducting technical electronic, laboratory, and field analysis, and repairing and modifying instrumentation and control systems. This role ensures machines run optimally by reducing variability and enhancing performance.
Key Accountabilities:
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments and control systems.
- Implement technical solutions based on practical and theoretical knowledge in multidisciplinary project teams.
- Contribute to the installation and upgrading of instruments and control systems.
- Assess existing instrumentation and control engineering criteria, recommending updates or revisions as necessary.
- Provide technical input for installing, upgrading, or enhancing new or existing instruments.
- Adjust control systems and perform operational tests to meet specified performance standards.
- Utilize Distributed Control System (DCS) techniques to enhance system performance.
- Conduct Failure Trend Analysis (FTA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA), proposing solutions to prevent future failures.
- Apply predictive maintenance processes to identify and mitigate risks, avoiding backlogs.
- Investigate incidents, report findings, and take corrective actions as required.
- Gather and analyze data, generating reports for project teams.
- Document maintenance processes and track service records to diagnose and address future issues.
- Comply with condition monitoring programs, engineering governance, operating procedures, and relevant legislation.
- Follow SHE practices to ensure safe operations.
- Implement Sasol Group’s risk philosophy and enterprise risk management framework.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with team members and stakeholders to optimize the reliability of control systems.
- Continuously develop technical skills and knowledge through a personal development plan.
Formal Education:
- Matric/N3 with Maths, English, and Physical Science
- University Diploma (Instrumentation)
Working Experience:
- 1+ years of relevant experience
Required Skills:
- Courage and ability to manage complexity
- Strong troubleshooting skills for technical issues
- Planning and alignment capabilities
- Engineering design experience
- Knowledge of electrical fundamentals and systems
- Action-oriented with engineering implementation skills
