Are you passionate about GIS and risk analysis? Santam Underwriting Risk Management invites you to join our team as a Technical Support: GIS & Risk Analysis professional. Reporting to the Technical Specialist: Risk Analysis & Advice, this role is integral to supporting and enhancing our risk management processes.

What Will You Do?

As part of the Risk Management Team in the Underwriting Risk Management department, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing project deliverables such as geocoding and thatch accumulation.
  • Administering and supporting ESRI’s ArcGIS Online cloud solutions.
  • Collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing both spatial and non-spatial data.
  • Handling daily queries via the FloodQueries and MyLocation mailboxes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Support: Assist in managing and executing technical project deliverables.
  • GIS Administration: Provide data management and administrative support for the ArcGIS Online Viewer application.
  • Data Management: Collect, clean, geocode, and analyze spatial and non-spatial data for risk assessments.
  • Spatial Analytics: Perform GIS analyses and contribute to informed decision-making processes.
  • Training: Conduct training sessions for tools like geocoding and viewer applications.
  • Mailboxes Management: Manage daily queries in FloodQueries and MyLocation mailboxes on a rotational basis.
  • Tool Development & Updates: Support application updates, including the LITool on Viewer and PolicyCenter (PC).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum Requirements:
    • BSc in Geomatics, Geoinformatics, or a related specialist field.
    • 10–15 years of experience as a GIS Technologist/Professional.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
    • Knowledge of insurance and related risks is advantageous.

Skills and Competencies

  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in ESRI software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).
    • GIS data preparation, spatial analytics, and geocoding expertise.
    • Python scripting for automation and custom solutions (advantageous).
    • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
