Job Description:
Fidelity is seeking a skilled and experienced Station Officer to join our team in regional areas. This key role involves overseeing and responding to all fire-related incidents, ensuring the safety of clients and property. The Station Officer will manage firefighting operations, emergency rescues, basic medical care, and fire prevention activities. Additionally, they will supervise firefighting teams, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and engage in training activities to ensure operational readiness and effective fire protection.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Lead and manage firefighting activities and emergency operations under the guidance and supervision of senior officers.
- Respond to fires, rescues, and other emergency incidents, including those involving hazardous substances.
- Extricate and assist casualties during emergencies, and provide resuscitation and medical treatment as necessary.
- Operate firefighting equipment and machinery to control, manage, and extinguish fires.
- Undertake fire protection duties to protect lives and property, ensuring all necessary equipment is available and properly used.
- Prepare for and participate in emergency incidents, including training drills, simulations, and physical fitness activities.
- Train relevant employees on the theory and practice required for effective firefighting and fire prevention.
- Advise on preventative measures and implement safety protocols to safeguard people, property, and data.
- Maintain operational readiness through basic maintenance of firefighting equipment, vehicles, and apparatus.
- Complete computerized logs and reports of daily occurrences, ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance with safety standards.
- Conduct health and safety inspections to maintain a secure working environment.
- Drive and operate heavy firefighting vehicles to and at emergency incidents, as well as machinery to extricate victims and access difficult areas.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations, including safety inspections and the use of protective clothing.
- Assist with Fire and Safety training, fire safety inspections, and life safety education.
- Supervise and lead firefighting teams, ensuring adherence to all relevant policies and safety procedures.
Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies Required:
- Minimum Grade 12 qualification
- IFSAC Accredited NFPA 1001 Firefighter II certification
- At least 2-3 years of firefighting experience
- Valid code C1/EC driver’s license with PrDP (advanced driving experience advantageous)
- Physically and medically fit
- Strong understanding of fire prevention procedures and firefighting systems
- Knowledge of fire chemistry and firefighting systems used to extinguish fires
- Clear criminal record
- Ability to react quickly and efficiently to emergency situations
- Excellent administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Hazmat experience and knowledge is essential
- EMT certification and First Aid (Levels 1-3) or ILS is advantageous
Core Competencies:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- In-depth understanding of Hazmat guidelines and firefighting systems
- Ability to act within the code of conduct of the security industry and regulatory authorities
- Knowledge of fundamental elements related to firefighting instructor roles
- Leadership skills with the ability to supervise and mentor teams
