Job Description:
Tiger Brands is seeking a dedicated SSE Officer: Culinary to enhance our Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (SHE) compliance efforts. In this role, you will create a conducive environment for continuous improvement in SHE fields, ensuring adherence to legal and social responsibility standards. You will manage and maintain international safety and environmental management systems and oversee site compliance with SHE legislation. Your role will involve identifying site risks, leading risk assessment documentation, and driving capability building for SHE. You will implement and oversee a behavioral-based safety program and support SHE guidance across the site.
Responsibilities:
- System Customization: Tailor the SHE management system to fit various operations and activities, ensuring it aligns with current legislation and site-specific needs.
- Legislative Updates: Regularly update the system to reflect changes in legislation and manufacturing processes.
- Database Management: Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of national, provincial, and municipal legislation. Summarize key responsibilities and design best practices based on legislative requirements.
- Training & Implementation: Design and implement best practices, provide training, and monitor adherence to these practices across all Tiger Brands sites.
- Compliance Support: Assist manufacturing and non-manufacturing sites with legal compliance, ensuring understanding and implementation of requirements.
- Legislative Communication: Keep sites informed of new legislative requirements and their impact. Ensure legal appointments are up-to-date and reflect organizational changes.
- Standards & Reporting: Develop new standards as per legislation, design and update the environmental system, and provide training workshops. Compile and distribute monthly risk reports.
- Audit & Investigation: Coordinate with Alexander Forbes (MARSH) for audits, evaluate compliance, and organize special investigations if needed. Review audit reports and insurance standards, and assist with workplace accident investigations.
- Vendor & Utility Management: Manage information from approved vendors and maintain a database. Gather and evaluate utility usage and outage measures for effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Core Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of Customs Acts and SARS requirements for exports/imports.
- Understanding of export contracts, product specifications, and shipping logistics.
- Familiarity with various country requirements and product knowledge.

- Leadership and supervisory skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years of risk management experience in the Food/Beverage industry.
- National Higher Diploma in Environmental Health.
- Qualification in Legal Aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993.
