Role Overview
PepsiCo is seeking a Specialist Artisan for our Epping Bakery, focusing on the commercialization of our operations. The role requires a skilled and experienced artisan to maintain high levels of equipment reliability, safety, and quality. You will play a key role in supporting the bakery’s operational excellence, ensuring consistent plant availability, performing preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Equipment Maintenance & Reliability:
- Conduct daily routine maintenance to ensure high standards of equipment performance, safety, and quality.
- Monitor machinery and equipment performance to ensure optimal plant availability.
- Identify and resolve risks related to workplace and machinery safety.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical failures using various problem-solving techniques (e.g., 5-Whys, RCA, decision trees).
- Manage spare parts and ensure compliance with maintenance schedules and documentation.
2. Preventative & Planned Maintenance:
- Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems, equipment, and machinery, including testing, adjusting, and aligning AC/DC power supplies, motors, generators, and circuit breakers.
- Replace defective electrical or mechanical parts (e.g., gears, brushes, armatures) and verify maintenance standards on all electrical distribution equipment.
- Dismantle machinery for repairs and ensure all work complies with OEM recommendations and GMPs.
- Ensure that scheduled maintenance is completed on time to minimize downtime and improve plant efficiency.
3. Plant Breakdowns & Troubleshooting:
- Attend to electrical and mechanical breakdowns, diagnosing issues and performing necessary repairs to ensure machinery and equipment operate efficiently.
- Communicate with plant personnel to gather feedback on equipment performance and efficiencies.
- Adhere to safety protocols and environmental guidelines, especially during breakdowns and major repairs.
- Maintain a clear and safe working environment, especially during significant maintenance activities.
4. Documentation & Administration:
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities performed on machinery.
- Complete daily shift reports and document work completed on machinery, ensuring compliance with operational requirements.
- Update parts/spare parts records in collaboration with the stores team, placing orders for necessary replacement parts.
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with food safety and environmental protocols, including AIB and related programs.
5. Coaching & Team Development:
- Coach and support operators in maintaining equipment and troubleshooting minor issues.
- Help develop skills and knowledge of the team to improve plant operations.
Qualifications
- Trade Tested: Millwright (Mechanical/Electrical)
- Experience: Minimum 5 years post-apprenticeship experience in an FMCG environment, with at least 3 years in food manufacturing. Experience in bakeries is an advantage.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working with Siemens, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi systems.
- Knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
- Certifications: Supervisory certificate beneficial.
- Availability: Ability to work standby shifts as required.
