Purpose of the Job
As a Snr Explosive Plant Operator Gr 2 in the Caps Plant, your primary responsibility will be the manual assembly of non-electric delay detonators, ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble products according to specifications outlined on the lot traveller.
- Operate and maintain various assembly machines, including shell loaders, PETN chargers, lead azide chargers, element presses, and more.
- Perform quality checks on assembled products to meet customer requirements.
- Conduct stock counts of raw materials in the production area.
- Sample debts for time testing and X-ray verification.
- Maintain cleanliness and general housekeeping within the plant.
- Measure product specifications using appropriate tools and record data accurately.
- Adjust machine settings to meet specific product requirements.
- Handle live lead azide and PETN during machine loading and unloading processes.
- Ensure equipment and machines are clean and free of pyrotechnic materials before scheduled maintenance.
- Replace press and inspection pins during routine and scheduled maintenance.
- Prepare and handle graphite for charge plates used in production.
- Work full shifts and overtime as required.
Qualifications
- Education: Grade 12 or equivalent, with Mathematics and Science as subjects.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in explosives manufacturing.
- Caps plant detonator manufacturing experience is advantageous.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong process optimization skills.
- Knowledge of process safety and environmental practices.
- Ability to manage complexity and plan effectively.
- Proficiency in equipment utilization and maintenance.
- Decision-making and accountability in safety-critical environments.
- Understanding of SHE (Safety, Health, and Environmental) standards.
- Familiarity with facilities design and arrangement in manufacturing.
