Sasol careers – Shiftboss Mining

Purpose of Job:
To provide coaching and guidance to personnel, fostering high-performance teams capable of achieving mining operation targets safely. Execute statutory duties in accordance with relevant mining regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Performance Management:
    Plan, organize, control, and lead daily operations to ensure department KPIs are met. Focus on producing safe coal by managing metrics such as tons/cm/shift, equipment availability, downtime, and Mean Time To Failure (MTTF)/Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).
  • Operational Compliance:
    Implement operational projects and ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the appointed area of responsibility. Monitor and ensure compliance with operating principles and relevant legislation.
  • Governance and Standards:
    Ensure compliance with governance bodies and standardization committees. Oversee SOP and Code of Practice (COP) implementation and adherence. Manage the availability of spares, equipment, and resources, including governance of electronic timekeeping systems.
  • Problem Solving and Support:
    Provide first-line solutions to technical problems reported by employees. Conduct failure trend analysis and root cause elimination. Support departments in achieving set targets by coordinating planning and problem resolution.
  • Performance and Cost Management:
    Manage costs to ensure production volumes are achieved within budget. Monitor Rand per ton (R/t), tons per cm per shift (t/cm/shift), and volumes against monthly Quality Targets (TQF). Ensure delivery against budget and reporting calendar targets.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    Ensure best-in-class safety performance and continuous improvement of key safety metrics. Maintain required RCR (Recordable Case Rate) and SHE (Safety, Health, and Environmental) compliance rates. Aim for zero harm, zero fatalities, and low Lost Workday Case Rate (LWDCR).
  • Training and Development:
    Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and career development opportunities for employees. Track training days, planned task observations, and engagement activities.

Formal Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Grade 12)

Added Qualification:

  • Mine Overseer qualification (Advantageous)

Experience:

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in mining operations

Professional Membership / Certifications:

  • Blasting Certificate (Underground)
