Sasol careers – Shiftboss Mining
The Shiftboss Mining is responsible for coaching and guiding personnel to create high-performance teams that can meet targets for mining operations and activities, while ensuring safety. This role includes executing statutory duties in compliance with relevant mining regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, control, and lead daily operations to ensure department KPIs are met, producing safe coal in line with production targets (tons/cm/shift) and equipment availability.
- Ensure adherence to maintenance and overhaul programs, comparing plan vs. actual, and monitor the performance of infrastructure and inspection equipment (MTTF/MTTR).
- Implement operational projects, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Ensure adherence to operating principles, legislation, and governance bodies, including standardization committees and SOP/COP implementation.
- Maintain availability of necessary spares, equipment, and resources to support optimal operations, including governance of the electronic timekeeping system.
- Resolve technical problems reported by employees, performing failure trend analysis and root cause elimination.
- Support departments in achieving set targets by coordinating planning within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Monitor and control costs to ensure production volumes are achieved within budget, while delivering against budget targets and reporting deadlines.
- Ensure best-in-class safety performance by continuously improving safety metrics, including achieving zero harm, zero fatalities, and meeting SHE compliance targets.
- Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and career development for team members, tracking training days and engaging employees to ensure a motivated workforce.
Formal Education
- High School/School Diploma or equivalent (Grade 12).
- Additional qualification in Mine Overseer (Advantageous).
Experience
- 6+ years of relevant experience in a mining environment.
Professional Membership
- Blasting Certificate (Underground).
Licenses and Certifications
- Relevant certifications and licenses as required for mining operations.

- Ability to optimize mining operations and ensure safety standards are met.
- Knowledge of SHE policies, procedures, and standards.
