Senior Manager, Projects – DSV Vacancies

Main Purpose of the Role
The Senior Manager, Projects is responsible for leading and managing a highly experienced project team, ensuring successful delivery of complex logistics projects across Africa while driving profitability, operational excellence, and client satisfaction.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ project management experience, including exposure to African markets
  • Proven ability to manage road carrier negotiations, contracts, and tender submissions
  • Previous experience managing and leading teams
  • Strong knowledge of customs compliance for both inbound and outbound operations
  • Solid understanding of Incoterms
  • Strong supply chain knowledge with the ability to anticipate risks and proactively manage client expectations

Qualifications

  • Matric is essential
  • Supply Chain or Logistics degree is advantageous, or extensive relevant work experience

Computer Packages

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience using CargoWise One
  • Working knowledge of SAP

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive and manage project department profit and loss, identifying revenue leakage and improvement opportunities
  • Prepare comprehensive management reports with detailed analysis, feedback, and corrective actions
  • Ensure consistent service delivery to both internal and external clients
  • Manage vendors, including transporters and service providers, with SLAs reviewed through structured monthly meetings
  • Lead rate negotiations, implementation, and participation in key road freight tenders and quotations
  • Facilitate weekly departmental meetings and oversee bi-annual staff performance appraisals
  • Collaborate closely with sales teams to secure new business and retain existing clients
  • Apply Lean principles to identify inefficiencies, eliminate waste, and improve processes
  • Implement, review, and enforce work instructions and SOPs to ensure operational consistency
  • Continuously drive productivity improvements and operational efficiencies
  • Ensure financial and operational reports are reviewed, actioned, and that errors are addressed through root cause analysis and training
  • Lead, coach, and motivate team members, tracking individual and team performance against targets aligned with company strategy
  • Manage departmental productivity, workflow, and provide detailed monthly management reports
  • Ensure successful project close-out, including evaluation and structured feedback to key stakeholders
  • Participate in client business reviews alongside sales and client retention teams
  • Resolve quality issues through coaching, training, and disciplinary processes where required
  • Ensure full compliance with customs regulations, operational standards, and internal processes
  • Identify and address training needs related to systems, operations, and client engagement
  • Drive profitability and operational consistency across all project routes
  • Travel as required to support project execution and client requirements
  • Manage the end-to-end operational workflow of the project department to ensure optimal efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with internal audit requirements and alignment with SOPs
  • Implement and maintain QSHE standards within the team
  • Ensure customer service levels and SLA commitments are consistently met
  • Participate in and contribute to all key project-related tenders
  • Review metrics and financial KPI milestone reports to ensure effective outcomes
  • Implement robust risk mitigation strategies supported by clear operational processes and work instructions
  • Ensure client SOPs are implemented, reviewed, and maintained
  • Lead key client implementations across project and road operations
  • Maintain strong client relationships and drive retention initiatives
  • Actively support new business development and the sales process where required
