Job Description
The Senior Finance Manager will oversee technical accounting, share schemes, funding, merchandise imports, accounts payable, sundry debtors, and strategic projects. You will ensure IFRS compliance, maintain financial control frameworks, and provide expert guidance to teams across the finance function.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Accounting
- Lead all technical accounting matters, including implementation of new accounting standards
- Participate in the Group Accounting Forum to oversee accounting treatment, processes, and financial statement preparation for the Group and subsidiaries
- Review and approve annual financial statements, ensuring IFRS compliance, technical accuracy, and adherence to reporting timetables
- Facilitate external audit reviews and maintain financial reporting controls for CEO/CFO attestation in line with JSE Listings requirements
Share Schemes
- Manage accounting, reconciliations, and disclosures for all share schemes
- Prepare share scheme data for annual financial statements and Group tax calculations
- Maintain accounting package data and reconcile with share scheme systems
- Assist with diluted share calculations and accounting for the Group’s share scheme trust
Funding
- Participate in funding negotiations and review funding agreements
- Monitor covenant compliance, reporting to lenders, the Board, and Investment Committee
- Review all reconciliations related to funding and costs
Merchandise Imports
- Oversee the finance imports function and guide the team
- Review journals, reconciliations, and monthly profit & loss/trading reports
- Approve import clearing agent invoices and payments
- Report foreign exchange exposures to the Investment Committee and import VAT/duty compliance to the Tax Forum
Merchandise Accounts Payable
- Manage the merchandise accounts payable function, providing guidance and support
- Review reconciliations and ad hoc transactions
Sundry Debtors
- Oversee the sundry debtors team and ensure accurate journals and reconciliations
- Monitor and report on sundry loans, advances to suppliers, and the supplier development fund
Ad Hoc/Strategic Projects
- Participate in and support strategic projects aligned with the Group’s objectives
Qualifications and Experience
- CA (SA) qualification
- At least 10 years post-articles experience, ideally at a Finance Manager level in a public listed company of similar size
- Extensive experience in complex financial environments, ideally in retail or credit retail
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial statement expertise
