About the Role:
The Senior Engineer – Electrical will provide electrical engineering operational support to ensure the plants meet their operating objectives while maintaining high technical standards. The role will involve optimising the performance of electrical systems, mitigating risks, and ensuring that installed assets operate at their most efficient and reliable capacity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Electrical Engineering Support: Deliver operational and technical support for electrical systems and processes, ensuring that they meet Sasol’s operational standards and contribute to production goals.
• Problem Solving & Risk Mitigation: Lead efforts to resolve complex electrical issues, implementing design improvements, renewals, or re-designs to mitigate electrical risks and improve system performance.
• Maintenance Strategy: Develop and implement maintenance strategies for electrical systems, including HV/MV networks, transformers, power cables, and switchgear.
• Incident Management & Corrective Actions: Identify root causes of electrical failures, implement corrective actions, and ensure effective resolution to prevent recurrence.
• Asset Management & Optimization: Use critical asset management processes (CAMP) to assess and rank the criticality of electrical equipment based on impact and probability, optimizing reliability and availability.
• Modification & Compliance: Ensure modifications and electrical designs meet required specifications and standards, actively participating in Sasol’s Management of Change (MOC) process.
• Technological Advancements: Identify and implement innovative electrical engineering solutions that enhance production, equipment reliability, and safety.
• Leadership & Knowledge Sharing: Lead and mentor engineering teams, facilitating knowledge sharing and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, and suppliers, ensuring effective collaboration and service delivery.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Education: BSc or B-Eng in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience: Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, particularly in HV/MV electrical distribution networks, transformers, switchgear, and protection relays.
• Certifications: ECSA registration as a professional engineer is required within 2 to 3 years after appointment.
• Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals, systems, design, and implementation.
  • Experience in troubleshooting electrical systems and managing complex engineering challenges.
  • Ability to lead projects, manage complexity, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence, negotiate, and work collaboratively across diverse teams.
