Senior Credit Analyst Role
This role is responsible for assessing credit risk and managing a portfolio of counterparty exposures. The position requires in-depth credit analysis, financial modeling, and ongoing monitoring of transactional and portfolio risks. A strong understanding of the domestic credit market, industry trends, and financial analysis techniques is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct credit assessments of South African borrowers, ensuring a thorough analysis of financial health and creditworthiness.
- Stay informed on domestic credit markets, industry trends, and economic conditions to provide strategic insights.
- Prepare and present detailed credit applications to credit committees.
- Identify transaction-specific risks and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Perform comparative industry analysis to assess a counterparty’s standing among its peers.
- Conduct regular reviews and updates on credit risk exposure within the portfolio.
- Maintain accurate financial models and credit ratings, adjusting as new data becomes available.
- Provide independent recommendations to relevant committees based on in-depth credit analysis.
- Collaborate with Credit Portfolio Management (CPM) to ensure accurate risk-adjusted return calculations.
- Monitor transactional and credit risk within the portfolio while ensuring adherence to the Credit Risk Strategy and Policy.
Support for Risk Departments
- Assist the Compliance team with information required for new account openings.
- Work closely with the Legal department to finalise credit-related legal documentation.
- Support the Legal Treasury Advisor with facility agreements and credit support annexes (CSA).
Additional Responsibilities
- Monitor credit limits and exposure, ensuring compliance and resolving breaches.
- Engage with front-office teams on debt funding initiatives.
- Maintain well-organised digital credit files for counterparties.
- Fulfill reporting obligations as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or diploma in a relevant field with 6 to 8 years of experience in credit analysis or a related role.
- Strong background in financial modeling and competitor analysis.
- Experience in producing credit reports and making lending recommendations.
