Job Description
Truworths is seeking a dynamic Senior Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse Developer with a proven track record in developing enterprise-level data warehouses aligned with modern Business Intelligence standards. The role requires close collaboration with stakeholders and team members to define, design, and deliver actionable insights in an agile environment. You will be responsible for developing robust data, ETL, and reporting services to support various business units. Your ability to quickly understand new business concepts will ensure your success in this role. This position is based at Truworths’ head office in Cape Town.

Key Responsibilities

• Champion BI and DW architecture.

• Ensure data quality, integrity, and reliability within Truworths BI.

• Contribute to and grow architectural forums within the Truworths BI environment.

• Design data models (Dimensional, Multi-dimensional, and Relational).

• Develop ETL architecture.

• Automate processes and develop architecture to streamline operations.

• Utilize PL/SQL for coding and reporting.

• Support self-service BI initiatives.

• Focus on IT and business process optimization.

• Integrate data between legacy and modern systems.

• Interface with users to understand specifications and deliver solutions.

• Develop ad-hoc scripts to facilitate user queries.

• Manage batch processes and scheduling.

• Contribute to agile documentation.

• Participate in design, peer, and code reviews.

• Provide daily technical, functional, and operational support for existing Business Intelligence solutions.

• Contribute to the growth of the architecture by moving to modern platforms, on-premise and/or cloud.

Qualifications and Experience

• Qualifications: BSc or BCom in Information Systems, IT/IS Diploma (highly advantageous), or substantial experience in a Data Warehousing or Business Intelligence environment.

• Experience/Knowledge:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data warehousing and/or ETL.

  • Strong architectural mindset.

  • Data and report modelling experience.

  • Previous experience with retail systems is an advantage.

  • Batch processing and scheduling experience.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with business users.

  • Experience in documenting technical requirements based on business briefs.

• Essential:

  • Enterprise Data Warehousing (Kimball Method), Data Modelling, and Design.

  • ETL (SSIS, IBM DataStage, Informatica, ODI or similar).

  • PL/SQL or T-SQL scripting and optimization.

  • IT/Business Process Engineering.

  • Report development.

  • Agile experience working in SCRUM.

• Advantageous:

  • Oracle Database (11g/12c/19c).
