Job Description:
Truworths is seeking a dynamic Senior Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing enterprise-level data warehouses that align with modern Business Intelligence (BI) standards. In this role, you will collaborate with stakeholders and team members to define, design, and deliver actionable insights to the business in an agile environment. You will be responsible for developing robust data, ETL, and reporting services that support various business units. The ability to adapt quickly and grasp new business concepts will be key to your success in this position, which is based at the Truworths head office in Cape Town.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of BI and Data Warehouse architecture.

  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and reliability within the Truworths BI environment.

  • Contribute to and grow architectural forums within Truworths BI.

  • Design and implement data models (Dimensional, multi-dimensional, and relational).

  • Develop ETL architecture and implement process automation.

  • Write PL/SQL code to support data transformation and integration.

  • Create and develop reports to deliver actionable business insights.

  • Promote self-service BI capabilities within the organization.

  • Support IT and business process optimization initiatives.

  • Facilitate data integration between legacy and modern systems.

  • Collaborate with users to understand requirements and agree on specifications.

  • Develop ad-hoc scripts to assist users with data queries.

  • Provide batch support and scheduling for BI processes.

  • Contribute to agile documentation for BI processes and systems.

  • Participate in design, peer, and code reviews to ensure high-quality deliverables.

  • Provide daily technical, functional, and operational support for existing BI solutions.

  • Contribute to the evolution and modernization of the BI architecture, both on-premise and in the cloud.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BSc or BCom in Information Systems or an IT/IS Diploma (highly advantageous) or substantial experience in a Data Warehousing or Business Intelligence environment.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in data warehousing and/or ETL development.

  • Experience with architectural design in BI environments.

  • Proficiency in data and report modeling.

  • Previous experience in retail systems is an advantage.

  • Strong knowledge of batch processing and scheduling.

  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with business users.

  • Ability to document technical requirements from business briefs.

Competencies:

Technical Competencies (Essential):

  • Expertise in Enterprise Data Warehousing (Kimball Method), Data Modelling, and Design.

  • Experience with ETL tools such as SSIS, IBM DataStage, Informatica, ODI, or similar.

  • Strong skills in PL/SQL or T-SQL scripting and optimization.

  • Knowledge of IT/Business Process Engineering.

  • Experience in report development.

  • Agile experience working in SCRUM teams.

Advantageous Technical Competencies:

  • Experience with Oracle Database 11g/12c/19c.

  • Familiarity with Oracle OBIEE, Power BI, or similar reporting services.

  • Experience with Control M for batch scheduling.

  • Familiarity with merchandise, retail, financial, or CRM systems.

  • Experience working with large volumes of transactional data.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server Database services, SSAS, and SSIS.

  • Experience with Oracle ESSBASE.

  • Experience with SAS Viya and CAS services.

  • Knowledge of Low Code Development (Oracle APEX, Microsoft Power Apps).

  • Familiarity with Power Query, M Language, and DAX.

  • Experience in Real-time Data Processing/Data Streaming (JSON, MongoDB, Kafka).
