Armscor Vacancies – Senior Ammunition Marking Technician

Purpose of the Job:

The Senior Ammunition Marking Technician is responsible for refining, introducing, and maintaining ammunition marking drawings to meet local and international standards. This role supports Armscor Project Managers, the Department of Defence (DOD), and the Defence Industry.

Critical Performance Areas:

  • Prepare, check, and maintain a diverse range of ammunition drawings for Landward systems, Air Force systems, Naval systems, and Military Health Services.
  • Advise stakeholders on in-house ammunition document requirements.
  • Provide ongoing information, advice, and training to Armscor and DOD personnel on the National Military Stock Codification System and ammunition marking.
  • Report periodically to the Ammunition Marking Specialist on the status of ammunition and related documentation.
  • Guide stakeholders on correct military stock codification, identification groups, classes, RAINs, descriptions, and applications.
  • Identify, verify, and advise on ammunition marking discrepancies and resolve issues with industry ammunition experts.
  • Confirm and interpret complex enquiries from Ammunition and Explosive Technical Manuals (A&ETMs).
  • Support the Ammunition Marking Specialist with technical and administrative requirements.
  • Manage an inventory of assets including drawings and manuals.
  • Revise ammunition marking drawings to comply with international safety standards and specifications.
  • Perform quality assurance to ensure accuracy of ammunition marking documentation for the DOD.
  • Oversee configuration control of the explosives register for the Explosive Board of South Africa.
  • Generate explosive certificates for the Defence Industry.
  • Attend meetings of the Explosives Board, Insensitive Munitions Steering Committee, and Ammunition Indaba.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12
  • National Diploma in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering
  • Preferably a qualified Ammunition Fitter artisan or armourer

Experience:

  • 4-7 years of experience in military ammunition management, covering a broad range of ammunition types, categories, classes, explosives, safety categories, packaging, and transport.
  • Experience with drawing/design software packages such as CAD or Imagineer is optional.

Knowledge & Functional Skills:

  • Proficient in drawing/design software packages (CAD/Imagineer) is optional.
  • Extensive knowledge of ammunition types, categories, classes, explosives, safety categories, handling, packaging, marking, and transport.
  • Strong understanding of DOD ammunition marking policy documentation.
  • Expertise in configuration control for ammunition marking.
  • Familiarity with quality concepts and processes.
