Dischem Vacancies – Security Guards

Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Johannesburg is seeking a skilled and vigilant Security Guard to join our security team. As a Security Guard, your primary responsibility is to maintain a safe and secure environment by protecting our assets, property, and personnel. Your role involves identifying and addressing signs of criminal activity or disturbances while adhering to industry regulations and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular patrols to ensure optimal visibility and deter criminal activity.
• Monitor access points for both vehicles and pedestrians, allowing entry only to authorized individuals.
• Investigate and report any signs of damage, unlawful entry, or other suspicious activities to management.
• Maintain a visible presence to prevent theft, damage, and personal injury.
• Perform access control by searching staff, suppliers, and merchandisers as needed.
• Complete all necessary registers and occurrence books with accuracy.
• Supervise refuse removal to meet Dis-Chem standards and ensure all doors and windows are locked at the end of the day.
• Provide excellent customer service to visitors, customers, and employees.
• Practice good communication skills when reporting any unusual or suspicious behavior.
• Assist in opening and closing procedures to ensure all security measures are followed.
• Conduct thorough personnel frisking and vehicle searches as required.
• Act quickly and responsibly in emergency situations, including alerting first responders and providing clear directions during evacuations.
• Operate security systems, such as CCTV and alarms, and report any malfunctions or breakdowns.
• Ensure adherence to safety precautions and provide security advice to others.
• Enforce rules and regulations to prevent criminal activity before it happens.
• Take accurate notes of daily activities and unusual occurrences.
• Perform additional tasks such as answering phone calls, responding to text and email messages, and other administrative duties.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 – Matric or a Senior Certificate
• Grade C accreditation with the PSIRA
• At least 3 years of security experience in the retail industry, such as shopping malls or warehouses

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience in a similar role

Competencies

• Strong understanding of PSIRA regulations
• Knowledge of fire emergency and relevant Health and Safety training
• Excellent command of English (read, write, and speak)
• Ability to maintain focus and composure during high-pressure situations
• Good communication and customer service skills

Special Conditions of Employment

• Must be PSIRA registered
• South African citizen with a clear criminal and credit record
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Able to work both indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions
