Dischem Vacancies – Security Guards – Durban, KwaZulu-Natal

Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Durban is seeking a dedicated and vigilant Security Guard to join our team. This role requires a commitment to maintaining a safe environment for our assets, property, and staff by adhering to the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001, along with Dis-Chem’s internal security standards. As a Security Guard, you’ll play a crucial role in protecting our facilities from theft, vandalism, and other criminal activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular patrols to maintain visibility and deter criminal activities.
• Monitor and control access to the premises, ensuring that only authorized personnel and visitors are allowed entry.
• Investigate and report signs of damage, unlawful entry, or other disturbances.
• Perform thorough checks on personnel, vehicles, and goods to prevent theft and unauthorized access.
• Maintain and complete all necessary security documentation, including registers and occurrence books.
• Respond promptly to emergencies and alert relevant authorities as needed.
• Ensure all doors, windows, and other entry points are secured at the end of the day.
• Provide excellent customer service while interacting with staff, customers, and visitors.
• Monitor alarm systems and video cameras to detect any suspicious activities.
• Assist in evacuation procedures and ensure the safety of all individuals on the premises.
• Offer ongoing security advice and safety warnings to all personnel.

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate
• PSIRA Grade C accreditation
• At least 3 years of experience in the retail security sector (e.g., shopping malls or warehouses)

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least 1 year of experience in a similar security role
• Knowledge of fire safety and health regulations
• Proficiency in English (spoken and written)

Special Conditions of Employment:

• Must be a South African citizen
• PSIRA Grade C accreditation
• Clear criminal and credit records
• Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport (with PDP if deployed as a driver)
