Armscor Vacancies – Scaffold Hand

Purpose of the Job:

The Scaffold Hand will assist the Chief Handyman, Supervisor, or Section Manager with various scaffolding activities, maintenance, and services. The role is crucial for providing efficient and effective scaffolding support to the South African Navy and Armscor Dockyard.

Critical Performance Areas:

• Erect and dismantle scaffolding on-board vessels, in workshops, and within the dockyard.
• Maintain and manage all scaffolding equipment.
• Adhere to all safety and regulatory requirements.
• Safely transport tools, equipment, and supplies to job sites to ensure efficient work progress.
• Clean equipment as directed.
• Use basic hand and power tools safely.
• Assist with docking and undocking vessels at the Dry Dock and Synchrolift under the Dock Master’s guidance.
• Perform general cleaning tasks in workshops and mess areas, including spills, sweeping, vacuuming, and waste removal.
• Provide transport and lifting support by operating forklifts and cherry pickers.
• Clean ablution facilities and dust/polish office furniture and telephones.
• Remove waste for disposal.

Qualifications:

• Grade 12
• Certificate of competence for scaffold erecting (advantageous)
• Forklift and cherry picker license (advantageous)

Experience:

• Minimum of 1 year experience in erecting and dismantling scaffolding in an industrial or similar environment.

Special Proficiencies/Skills:

• Ability to assist skilled workers effectively.
• Knowledge of general hand and power tools.
• Familiarity with 5S cleaning standards and basic safety practices.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Willingness to work overtime.
• Basic understanding of Safety and Health Regulations.
