Position Overview

Tiger Brands is looking for an experienced Sales Manager to lead and manage sales efforts within a defined territory. This role focuses on growing sales volumes, expanding market share, and driving business success through effective sales strategies, relationship building, and team leadership. You will be responsible for managing sales operations, ensuring targets are met, and developing new business opportunities in the competitive FMCG space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sales Strategy & Execution:
    • Plan and direct sales team activities to ensure consistent delivery against sales targets and KPIs.
    • Grow sales volumes in existing markets while exploring and developing new markets and channels.
    • Monitor sales activity, evaluate performance against targets, and implement corrective actions as needed.
    • Build strong business relationships with store management to enhance customer satisfaction and brand presence.
  • Market & Customer Insights:
    • Gather and report intelligence on customer preferences, competitive activity, and pricing.
    • Maintain in-depth knowledge of products, sales systems, and procedures to optimize sales processes.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Ensure product quality meets Tiger Brands’ standards to maintain customer satisfaction and brand integrity.
    • Collaborate with customers to ensure sufficient stock levels are maintained to meet consumer demand.
  • Asset Management:
    • Manage point-of-sale materials and reduce basket management losses.
  • Leadership & Team Development:
    • Lead, coach, and develop the sales team, ensuring performance against KPIs and providing regular feedback through formal evaluations.
    • Oversee career and succession planning, ensuring team members have the necessary skills and capabilities.
    • Manage conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and compliance with employment legislation and company policies.
  • Financial Management:
    • Manage budgets, trade discounts, and P&L to ensure profitability and cost control.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with internal teams such as Dispatch, Transport, and Distribution to ensure seamless operations.
    • Interface with external stakeholders, including national distribution and RTM management, to enhance customer relationships.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education:
    • Tertiary qualification in Sales, Marketing, or Commercial (preferably in food manufacturing).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of sales experience in the FMCG environment.
    • At least 5 years of sales management experience within FMCG.
    • Proven experience managing P&L, discount management, and profitability.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong leadership and people management skills.
    • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
    • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Willingness to work long hours, weekends, and public holidays when required.
    • Experience in managing both informal and formal trade sectors.
