Introduction:
SPAR Lowveld, a division of The SPAR Group Ltd., is seeking an experienced Retail Risk Manager to join our team at the Distribution Centre located in Nelspruit. We are looking for a dynamic professional who can provide expert guidance, support, and advice to retailers on risk, safety, and compliance.

Job Description:
As the Retail Risk Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring that our retail stores operate safely, comply with regulations, and minimize risk. You will work closely with store managers, regional teams, and national office to implement best practices and create a secure shopping environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and ensure compliance with risk management and loss control policies, while adhering to legislative requirements.
  • Provide expert advice to the store development team to enhance safety and compliance in line with industry standards and legislation.
  • Conduct store audits during structured visits and provide detailed feedback through written reports to regional and national offices.
  • Offer recommendations to enhance the safety and security of information, assets, and personnel.
  • Advise on and oversee the implementation of security equipment upgrades.
  • Estimate project costs for safety equipment and prepare business plans for stores.
  • Design and implement training programs to ensure the effectiveness of safety and compliance interventions.
  • Participate in disciplinary and criminal hearings related to security incidents.
  • Recommend and implement Best Operating Practices for retail risk management.
  • Provide standby support for retail locations, responding to armed robberies and burglaries.
  • Conduct compliance audits and ensure retail stores meet both internal and external regulatory requirements.
  • Assist retailers in achieving compliance with all relevant legal and company policies.
  • Stay informed of regulatory changes, emerging risks, and industry trends to identify and address potential compliance issues.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric certificate.
  • Tertiary qualification in Risk Management, Security Management, or a related field is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Retail Risk Management at a store or Distribution Centre level, with a solid understanding of retail business operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and business compliance requirements.
  • Experience in compliance, risk audits, assessments, and criminal investigations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • A goal-oriented and driven individual with a passion for innovation and enthusiasm for problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal), presentation, and conflict management skills.
  • Strong leadership qualities, including the ability to listen, consult, motivate, and influence others.
