Job Overview:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a qualified Pharmacist Assistant to join our Whiteriver store. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will be responsible for providing top-notch pharmaceutical care, ensuring that patients’ medicine-related needs are met with precision and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pharmaceutical Care:
    • Assist in evaluating patients’ medicine-related needs by determining the indication, safety, and effectiveness of therapy.
    • Support the dispensing of medicines or scheduled substances under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
    • Accurately interpret and process prescriptions, ensuring correct selection, labeling, and supply of medications.
    • Provide clear and accurate instructions to patients regarding the correct use of their medications.
    • Stay informed of changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.
  • Prescription Management:
    • Capture and verify patient details on the system, ensuring the accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications.
    • Assist with the processing of all necessary paperwork for accurate submission of claims to medical aids.
    • Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aid and ensure authorization of chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications.
  • Customer Service:
    • Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front-shop areas.
    • Explain medical aid costs to patients and follow up on script tracking and appointments as needed.
    • Maintain and manage patient profiles on the system, ensuring any necessary actions are taken.
  • Stock and Asset Control:
    • Report low or out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the Dispensary Manager.
    • Assist in the facilitation of bi-annual stock takes and ensure proper control of stock, cash, and assets.
    • Ensure all stock control processes are adhered to and that all registers are kept up to date according to legislation.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Essential:
    • Grade 12 / Matric.
    • Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
    • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
    • 2-3 years of experience in a retail pharmacy setting.
    • Computer literacy (MS Office).
  • Advantageous:
    • Relevant experience in Retail/FMCG.
    • Proficiency in a third language.
    • Experience with SAP, E-scripting, and Unisolv.
    • Registered tutor.

Competencies:

  • Essential:
    • Strong command of English and a second language (verbal and written).
    • Excellent communication and listening skills.
    • Knowledge of basic dosing and important drug interactions.
    • Customer service-oriented with a focus on problem-solving.
    • Experience in supervising and training staff.
    • Strong attention to detail and numerical skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively.
    • Team player, trustworthy, and honest.
