Job Overview:

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a skilled and reputable Pharmacist to join our team at the Plettenberg Bay store. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care, ensuring that patients’ medicine-related needs are fully met and managed with the utmost care and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care by evaluating and addressing patients’ medicine-related needs, ensuring safe and effective therapy.
  • Dispense prescribed medications and scheduled substances while adhering to legal and ethical standards.
  • Review and verify prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, accepting full accountability for their accuracy.
  • Offer guidance and advice to patients regarding the proper use of medications.
  • Monitor patient adherence to prescribed therapies, conducting follow-ups to ensure optimal health outcomes.
  • Perform pharmacist-initiated therapy and oversee the compounding, preparation, and packaging of medications.
  • Manage the procurement, storage, and distribution of medications, ensuring compliance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act.
  • Accurately process and capture prescription details in the system, maintaining up-to-date patient profiles.
  • Handle medical aid claims, ensuring accurate submissions and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Assist patients with inquiries at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop.
  • Manage stock levels, report discrepancies, and participate in regular stock takes.
  • Ensure compliance with Dis-Chem’s policies, procedures, and Health and Safety standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: BPharm or equivalent qualification
  • Certification: Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience:
    • 2-3 years of pharmaceutical experience
    • 2-3 years of retail pharmacy experience (including internship)
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in MS Office
    • Strong communication skills, both in English and a second language
    • Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
    • Ability to lead, train, and manage a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a retail/FMCG environment
  • Knowledge of SAP and E-scripting systems
  • Registered tutor with experience in Unisolv
