Dischem Vacancies – Pharmacist Intern
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacist Intern at our Kenilworth store. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in a retail pharmacy setting, with a focus on understanding the core principles of pharmaceutical care. As a Pharmacist Intern, you’ll work under the supervision of licensed pharmacists, gaining valuable skills and knowledge in patient care, medication management, and customer service.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12/Matric
- Completed BPharm (4-year degree)
- Proficient in MS Office
Preferred Experience:
- Previous work experience during studies (e.g., holiday work in a pharmacy)
- Knowledge of Unisolve and E-Scripting systems
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform tasks within the scope of a pharmacist’s assistant (post-basic) under direct supervision, including dispensing Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines, and assisting with the compounding and preparation of non-sterile and sterile medicines.
- Assist in the distribution and control of Schedule 1 to Schedule 6 medicines, including ordering and stock management.
- Support the pharmacist in interpreting prescriptions, selecting and compounding medicines, labeling, and supplying them to patients.
- Provide clear instructions to patients regarding the correct use of medications and address any questions or concerns they may have.
- Ensure accurate capture of prescription details and verification of patient information in the system.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Assist with scheduled stock takes and maintain inventory accuracy.
- Provide customer service at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front-shop, ensuring that patient needs are met.
- Support the dispensary manager in administrative tasks, including processing medical aid claims, correcting errors, and ensuring accurate record-keeping.

- Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in English and a second language.
- Strong attention to detail and numerical skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and maintain a customer-focused approach.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to manage conflict.
- Trustworthy, honest, and able to work under pressure.
- Computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office.

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.
- Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council or possess a valid work permit.
