Job Overview:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacist Intern at our Hazeldean store. This internship is designed to provide you with comprehensive exposure to the pharmaceutical industry, equipping you with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career as a Pharmacist. You will play a key role in ensuring exceptional pharmaceutical care by addressing patients’ medicine-related needs while delivering outstanding customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide pharmaceutical care under the direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist, ensuring patient medicine-related needs are met.
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines and scheduled substances.
- Support in the compounding, preparation, and manufacturing of non-sterile and sterile medicines according to approved formulas and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Participate in the re-packaging, distribution, and stock control of Schedule 1 to Schedule 6 medicines.
- Accurately read and prepare prescriptions, ensuring the correct selection, manipulation, and labelling of medicines.
- Provide patients with clear instructions on the correct use of their medication.
- Stay updated on medical aid procedures and ensure accurate submission of claims.
- Collaborate with the Dispensary Manager to maintain stock levels, report discrepancies, and participate in scheduled stock takes.
- Maintain and update customer profiles, ensuring all information is accurate and action any necessary follow-ups.
- Ensure adherence to Dis-Chem’s policies, procedures, and Health and Safety standards.
- Assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop with any queries.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: Grade 12/Matric, BPharm – 4-year degree
- Certification: Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) or a valid work permit
- Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Strong communication skills in English and a second language
- Ability to apply knowledge from BPharm curriculum
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Unisolve and E-Scripting systems
- Prior work experience during degree (e.g., holiday work)
- Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations
