Role Purpose:
The primary objective of this role is to maintain, repair, and optimize plant equipment to ensure maximum availability, product quality, and efficiency at minimal cost while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and risk-free working environment by strictly adhering to safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform maintenance and operational tasks on various machines, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Repair and optimize plant equipment and associated devices while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Identify and implement mechanical improvements to optimize processes and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with the South African Bureau of Standards Act 1945 during all tasks.
  • Complete maintenance activities in line with SAB’s standard operating procedures.
  • Be available for standby duties as per the roster while minimizing disruptions.

Key Competencies and Attributes:

  • Strong problem-solving skills for FMCG machinery using tools such as 5 Why and Fishbone.
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge and mentor operational staff on ATO and 5S principles.
  • Expertise in reducing machine downtime and providing permanent solutions to issues.
  • Analytical skills to interpret graphical data and identify performance gaps.
  • Ability to identify defects, request necessary spares via SAP, and optimize machine performance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate within teams.
  • Self-management skills with the ability to work independently.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Minimum N4 Technical Qualification or higher.
  • Trade Certification: Mechanical or Millwright Trade Test Qualification.
  • Experience:
    • 2+ years post-trade test experience (advantageous).
    • Packaging experience (advantageous).
  • Skills: Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, and operation of electronic communication devices.
