We are looking for a skilled Oracle Database Administrator to manage, monitor, and maintain our production databases, ensuring their integrity, availability, and performance. You will support Sanlam’s Oracle database solutions deployed across various African countries, providing both system and application database support.
What Will You Do?
As an Oracle Database Administrator, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Designing, supporting, and maintaining Oracle databases (Oracle 19C) for Sanlam’s centrally hosted Oracle solutions, as well as in-country implementations.
- Managing database performance tuning, availability, backup, recovery, and overall database integrity.
- Collaborating with development teams to design and implement database architectures and standards.
- Overseeing the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure optimal database performance, security, and disaster recovery (DR) capabilities.
- Handling general Oracle multi-tenant and schema administration tasks, database user access control, and schema object management.
- Supporting disaster recovery exercises and ensuring data security through encryption and data obfuscation practices.
- Troubleshooting and monitoring DBMS performance and user activity, and taking corrective actions as needed.
- Participating in Oracle DBMS component support and DR exercises.
What Will Make You Successful in This Role?
Qualifications:
- Matric (Grade 12) is required.
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience (minimum 2 years).
Experience:
- Strong experience in Oracle database management and administration, particularly with Oracle 19C.
- Experience with Oracle database backups (Hot/Cold backups), RMAN, and schema-based backups.
- Familiarity with Oracle user roles, privileges, and security policies.
- Proficient in SQL, PL/SQL, and managing DDL and DML for database object manipulation.
- Working knowledge of Oracle database performance monitoring tools such as Toad, SQL Developer, and OEM Cloud Control.
- Experience with disaster recovery exercises and Linux/Microsoft OS proficiency to perform database tasks.
Technical Competencies:
- DBMS Backups: Experience with RMAN and export/import utilities for database backup.
- Database Security: Understanding and implementation of Oracle database user roles, encryption, and data security.
- Disaster Recovery: Knowledge of disaster recovery principles and participation in DR exercises.
- PL/SQL & SQL: Ability to create and execute DDL and DML scripts for database maintenance.
- Cloud Knowledge: Advantageous to have knowledge of cloud-based databases and technologies.
Oracle-Specific Knowledge:
- Extensive experience working with Oracle DBMS v19C.
- Understanding of Oracle’s multi-tenant architecture (PDB & CDB), Data Guard (Recovery), and Advanced Security (Encryption).
- Knowledge of database performance tuning, troubleshooting, and application performance analysis.
