Job Purpose:
The Blending Machine Operator sets up, operates, and monitors high-speed blenders to manufacture PVC blends adhering to safety, quality, and efficiency standards for medical-grade sheeting and tubing. Responsibilities include completing production/quality documentation, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

Machine Preparation and Start-up

  • Inspect and clean equipment before each shift, ensuring operational readiness.
  • Program the blender with the correct recipe, verifying SCADA setup accuracy.
  • Confirm raw materials meet quality specifications as per the Batch Mixing Report (BMR).

Production and Blending Operation

  • Operate the blender following SOPs, monitoring temperature, weight, and cycle timing.
  • Ensure precise measurement and mixing of materials according to the BMR.
  • Select batch sizes and initiate blending cycles per production schedules.

Quality Control and Monitoring

  • Review printouts and graphs to verify compliance with blend standards.
  • Monitor quality parameters and troubleshoot discrepancies to prevent defects.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Accurately complete production batch records, SOP logs, and quality documentation.
  • Generate daily Oracle batches for material and output tracking.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on blenders and related equipment.
  • Conduct basic troubleshooting and escalate complex issues to maintenance teams.

Health, Safety, and GMP Compliance

  • Adhere to GMP, safety protocols, and SOPs, reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in safety drills and comply with OHS Act requirements.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Assist in other roles like hopper filling as directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Science.
  • Technical qualification in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Engineering (advantageous).
  • Basic computer literacy (SCADA/Oracle proficiency is a plus).

Experience:

  • 1–2 years in a production role, preferably in plastics or pharmaceuticals.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial blending machinery or automated equipment.
  • Knowledge of GMP in a regulated environment.
