Job Description:
As a Millwright at Tiger Brands, you will be responsible for maintaining plant machinery and site services within the processing and packaging departments of our food processing factory. Your role will involve supporting operational staff to maximize production capacity by ensuring plant availability. This position requires working on either rotational shifts or day shifts and is based on the factory floor in the processing and packaging departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance:
    • Conduct planned and reactive maintenance on mixers, proofers, moulders, conveyors, ovens, coolers, and slicing machinery.
    • Perform minor maintenance on site services including boilers, air compressors, chillers, and air dryers.
    • Conduct running inspections on plant machinery and site services.
  • Fault-Finding:
    • Perform electrical and instrumentation fault-finding activities using multimeters, infrared scanners, electrical drawings, equipment manuals, and OEM support.
    • Execute mechanical fault-finding activities with the aid of mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and OEM support.
    • Complete root cause failure analysis for all breakdowns.
  • Reporting & Compliance:
    • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (DMS) to create and close job cards, generate store requisitions, and track artisan utilization.
    • Prepare and submit daily production, quality, and maintenance reports.
    • Address and close all occupational health and safety and food safety findings to ensure compliance with company regulations.
  • Operational Support:
    • Support the site’s water and energy agenda to ensure efficient use of water, electricity, and fuel.
    • Assist the Maintenance Coordinator and Manager in developing action plans to reduce plant machinery downtime and product damages.
    • Attend daily and weekly engineering meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Essential Skills & Qualifications:
    • Core Knowledge: Ensure zero downtime or production losses, continuous reduction in operating costs, 100% compliance with statutory requirements, and operate within budget.
    • Academic: N3 & Millwright Trade Test (N6 will be advantageous).
    • Experience: 5 years in a FMCG environment, with bakery experience preferred.
    • Behavioral: Ability to work under pressure, strong communication and service orientation, effective planning skills, and high attention to detail.
    • Skills: Fundamental understanding of food processing equipment, strategic thinking, innovative problem-solving, and excellent fault-finding skills.
